Atlanta’s Park over GA400 Nonprofit Board Names Jay Gould, President and CEO of Interface, Inc., as its New Board Chair
Atlanta – May 2, 2019 – The Park over GA400 nonprofit board today announced that Jay Gould, president and CEO of Interface, Inc., a global pioneer in sustainability and leading worldwide flooring company, has been named its new chair effective immediately. Gould will lead the board’s decisions in the next phases of sustainable planning, funding and development for Atlanta’s award-winning Park over GA400.
Gould, a Buckhead resident and purpose-driven business leader, is dedicated to creating greenspaces throughout Atlanta that bring the community together to collaborate on environmental efforts. He recently helped design Interface’s new global headquarters in Midtown Atlanta. Base Camp, as named by employees, incorporates design features that benefit employees and the environment, as the company targets Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) v4 Platinum certification and WELL Gold certification. The building uses 48 percent less energy than code requires and houses a 15,000-gallon water collection system for flush fixtures. The exterior features a forest-inspired building wrap that provides natural light and reduces heat and the expansive internal staircase is designed to encourage movement. Finally, a rooftop space brings nature directly into the workspace, and there are gathering spaces for improved teamwork throughout.
“I am honored to be selected as the Park’s nonprofit board chair. This Park will fill a critical need for more usable and accessible public greenspace in the heart of Buckhead – for residents, local employers and employees, and other visitors alike. I can envision a lively, invigorating space where people can reconnect with nature and each other – to reflect and collaborate as we work together to address our City’s carbon footprint.”
Gould joined Interface in 2015 and in early 2017 became only the third CEO in the company’s 44-year history. He has helped the company advance in its sustainability journey by launching a new mission called Climate Take Back™, an effort to reverse global warming and create a climate fit for life. This idea was instilled by Interface’s founder, Ray Anderson, a corporate environmentalist who passed in 2011.
“Jay will make a remarkable board chair because he comes from an organization that proclaimed businesses are responsible for sustainability. He also understands and values the importance of building a community that is accessible and connected,” said Jim Durrett, executive director – Buckhead CID. “Although Interface is located in Midtown, Jay has a passion for the Park and I know that he will bring more momentum to its progress,” he added.
Gould is replacing Barbara Kaufman, who was selected as the board chair in February 2018. According to Kaufman, “I’m passing this position to someone who is better equipped with a deep background and passion for sustainable initiatives. I fully support the Park and know that Jay will take the board and this project to the next level.”
Gould and Durrett plan to schedule public speaking appearances throughout metro Atlanta to share the Park’s vision and detail efforts to move the project forward. Interested organizations can click here to fill out a form and request a presentation.
